Would it Hurt You to Say Alhamdulilah?

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

This is a reminder to myself before anyone else.

Yesterday, while I was trying to fall asleep I was watching a documentary on TLC about this 9 year-old girl who was born with both of her legs fused together. Yes both of her legs are fused together, which gives her body the appearance of a mermaid. Subhan’Allah! This is how Allah (swt) created her and he created her like that for a reason. This documentary really got me thinking how we always complain about things, but we rarely say Alhamdulilah. If you see a person that is blind, deaf, etc. that is all the creation of Allah (swt). We should always be thankful for what we have no matter how dissatisfied we may be because Allah (swt) can take what He has given us in a heartbeat.

There are those people who try to change what Allah (swt) has given them, for example you have people wearing colored contacts because they’re not satisfied with the eye color that Allah (swt) has provided them with, even though they may not need them. What about the people who are born blind? What can they do? Contacts won’t help them and in many cases not even surgery. You have those people who have all types of surgeries to fix something that they don’t like. What about those people who are born with major body distortions? Sometimes, even surgery won’t make them look normal.

What I’m trying to say is be thankful for what you have at all times. You have no idea how many people around the world have circumstances that enable them to live normally. Never say, “Oh, why am I like this!” or “Why did this have to happen to me?” Always say Alhamdulilah, no matter how bad the situation is. Allah (swt) loves it when his creations thank Him and always make dua’a! There is this video by Ahmed Bukhatir that is relevant to this reminder and really touched my heart.

Jazakum Allah for reading.
